PENDEX APPLIANCE

The Pendex appliance is a special device to move your upper permanent molars back. It includes an expander screw as well because the molars need to go out and back to stay in their bony support. This appliance is used to correct the molar bite, gain room for the canine teeth and to gain room to move your upper front teeth back. We could be using it for one or all of these in your mouth. A few things to remember:

  • · You might notice that some of your upper teeth are a little sore for the next few days. This is normal. Take Tylenol, aspirin or Advil as needed.
  • · Your tongue may get sore as it rubs against the appliance. This should last only a few days. Be patient and your tongue will adapt.
  • · Because the Pendex appliance is breakable or can come loose, please do not eat hard, sticky foods. If one part of the Pendex appliance comes loose, we will need to see you to re-cement it.
  • · Be sure to brush like we instructed you. The Pendex appliance has many places where food and plaque can get stuck.
  • When we see you at your next appointment, we will be checking how your molars have moved. We may need to “activate” the molars springs to be sure your molars move as far back as needed. If you have any questions or if something doesn’t seem right, please call the office at 368-8348. We’re here to help!
