SEPARATORS

You have just had separators (spacers) placed between you teeth. These are used to make space between your teeth so we can place bands around these teeth at your next appointment. Here are some things you need to know about separators:

  • · You will feel like you have something stuck between your teeth (because you do!) but you can’t take it out. This feeling should go away after the first or second day.
  • · When you bite you will feel the separator. That’s normal.
  • · Don’t eat anything sticky that will pull the separator out. Also don’t floss only in this area. Floss everywhere else and brush normally. If the separator comes out we won’t have the space we need to fit the band around your teeth.
  • · If your teeth become sore, take tylenol or Advil as needed. To reduce sensitivity and soreness when we place your appliances, take a dose of Advil one hour before your appliance placement appointment.
  • · Check your separators every day in the mirror. If one comes out more than one day before your next appointment, call the office right away.
  • Good luck! This is the first step to getting your orthodontic appliances.. If you have any questions or problems before your next appointment, please call us at 368-8348.
